At some point in time, Captain Thomas Topping and Emma Aldridge were added as parents of James Tappan. There are some reasons why this connection is not appropriate:
1. The connection was made without providing any sources.
2. This James Tappan (born ca 1638 in Milford, Conn.; married to Ann Garrett) is not listed as one of the children of Thomas and Emma in "Topping Genealogy", 1980, by Charles E. Topping and Grace Topping Fritsch.
3. There is a different son of Thomas and Emma's named James, who was born in England in 1632 and who, like James Tappan, grew to adulthood. The wife of James Topping was named Abigail (according to "Topping Genealogy" and not Ann Garrett. It is not likely that they had two sons named James who both grew to adulthood.
4. In 1638, when James Tappan was born in Milford, the family of Thomas and Emma were still living in Wethersfield, Conn.
For these reasons, I have disconnected James Tappan from Thomas and Emma.
