Julius was born with the name Jenö on 23 March 1899 to Regina Greif in the village of Töltszek Hungary, now Tulčik Slovakia. At the time of his birth, Regina was still a single woman but her later marriage to Jozsef was added to Jenö's birth registration as a side note.
