A different type of change I would like to see -
We currently have a choice of searching "All of Geni". "Connected to You" and "Managed by You"
When Geni started, there was no way to merge trees. Those choices have been in effect since then or rather soon after it was possible to merge trees.
Now that almost everyone is on the World Tree, "Connected to You" does not help much - would like a choice "In Your Max Family"
Would also rather like to have a choice of "Managed by xxxxx" where you can enter name for xxxxx
I very much support what you wrote, and I will add one more thing: to fix the bug in the algorithm: it is not possible that the algorithm to show my father a (correct) connection to our great grandparents, and show for me something wrong and different..
All the things you wrote + fix the bug is not a difficult thing
Randy Schoenberg Not a real solution, but I often search Geni using Google. I use "site:geni.com [search terms]", also sometimes including dates. Seems to work well.
Neat feature would be image search (many profiles have photos).
Would also be great if you could click on a town on somebody's profile and have a page generated for that town (i.e. like surname pages). Obviously we have town-based groups, but the work involved in getting profiles into them can be substantial.
Observation, question and idea - - please forgive if this has been addressed before:
1/ there is apparent consensus by Geni.com users that more and different tools, functionality are needed.
2/ what improvements is Geni working on, if any? And, is it known what obstacles need to be overcome to developing and launching additional tools?
3/ If a major obstacle is time, expense and expertise, is it possible to crowd-fund the support and present it to Geni?
NOTE: I recognize that this creates potentially difficult "issues" of funding development of a private company. Another angle, maybe ... if a sufficient number of geni users pre-commit to a slightly higher subscription fee, if such features were built as a mode of encouraging geni to develop them. (A financial model that has been used in software industry previously).
On a related note, how did the SmartMatch tool get created? Was it completely outside of geni development but functions with geni or something developed in connection with geni management?
Thank you in advance if theses types of questions have been "asked and answered" previously. Eager to do what I can to move Geni.com and the collaboration vision to the next level.
