Hello,
I've been trying to track down my great-grandfather's parents (and beyond) in Croatia. His name was Jacob "Jack" Marasovich. My mother knew that he was from Dalmatia and I've been able to narrow that down to Sinj, but I've not had any luck yet trying to track him down. On a Croatian heritage group, I was directed to Dugopolje and other villages around Sinj, but I was curious if anyone here on Geni had any leads.
I searched through some church books on FamilySearch, but either because of the difficulty of reading the handwriting or because he's not in there, I haven't found him yet. He was born on July 25, 1887 and settled in South Dakota in the early 1900s. I've been able to, through local newspapers and draft cards, discern that he had several cousins that came to the US as well, but that's as far as I've been able to figure out family for him from the old country. The cousins were Mike, George, and brothers Tony and Philip. In Philip's obituary in 1918, it says that he left two siblings, an unnamed brother and sister, in Austria/Croatia, as well as his parents, another Jack Marasovich and Zellie Zukuvich.
Any ideas on where I can continue the hunt or anyone out there that recognizes any of these names? Thanks in advance!
