In Old Norse, which was spoken by the vikings, Kvamme was written Hvammr. It means a short valley.
In the Middle ages it was written Huamme. After this, Quamme, Quame, Qvamme, and finally Kvamme.

Ole’s great great great grandfather, Steinar Qvamme, cleared the land in 1560. When he was born, I don’t know. The name of the farm is much older than this. A letter dated Januar 19 1340 is referring to the farm (Huamme). Before this it was written Hvammr or Hvammi, and later Quamme, Quame, Qvamm
