I am re posting this here so maybe we can figure this out.

Managers of Braten S Jernigan,

I am contacting you about this profile: Braten S Jernigan

Sincerely,

Lucille Harrell Lawson

My 3rd great grandfather is Alexander "Alex" Jarnagin (spelled on his marriage license) in Jefferson County, TN to Elizabeth Amos (per marriage license) in 1825.

My cousin states that Braten S. Jernigan is Alex's father. Darlis Jernigan is on GedMatch and I match when he reduced the Centimorgans (cM) down to 3.

Hello Lucille,

Braten is my 4th great uncle. He is the brother of my 3rd great grandmother Celia F. Jernigan who married Green H. Fields. I would be interested in comparing our kits as well. I am not familiar with Darlis Jernigan but I am going to look them up on Gedmatch if I can. Usually that small amount of cM means you are related a lot further back then 3 or 4 generations but I could be wrong (the only time I lower it that low is if I want to go back to 8+ generations). Do you have any other trees? Anyway I am excited to hear back from you.

Braten would be my 4th great grandfather. Since Braten is not Darlis Jernigan's direct ancestor it would go further back. My Gedmatch # is A223979. My 3rd great grandfather got married in Jefferson County, TN in 1825 and lived in Grainger County, TN after married and Lee County, VA. My great great grandparents (Franklin "Frank" Jarnagin and Harriett Yount Jarnagin) also had a child that married into the Fields family. Her name was Nan Jarnagin Fields.

Hello Lucille,

I used Gedmatch but it only gave my I think it said 5.2 is the highest on 3 separate chromosomes which is still lower than I was expecting based on my other 3rd and 4th cousins. But it looks like we are definitely related. Who did you do your test thru? Do you have a tree somewhere else? I have trees everywhere so chances are I have one on the same site you do besides Geni. :) Nice to meet you.

I just used Gedmatch and compared your DNA with my Dad's DNA and there is no match even when I selected a min of 3 cM. Which means something is not correct I am not sure what that means as the connection should be greater not less. My dad is also a direct relation to Celia F. Jernigan. Do you have any tree or anything? Something I can look at. I looked at your tree here but you are not connected to me so maybe you are related to a different set of Jarnigans? Maybe our relationship is through someone else. I match the DNA of my fields and Jernigan relatives like I said at a higher level so I am very perplexed about this. I will be doing more research. I want to say that I think I am related to another Jernigan clan or maybe they are Jarnigan or Jarnigin and not Jernigan but I think through my mother which would explain this. Do you have any source? Who is your 3rd great grandfather? My locations and dates don't match up to the information you posted already from what I can tell. .I am going to re post this as a profile discussion so maybe we can get some help with this.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I have not been able to get to this section of the tree yet. Have been slower lately due to health reasons. Sorry about that.

Duh Lucille,

I just realized that you said that your gggf Alex Jarnagin got married in 1825 but Braten's son Alex was not born until 1828. So we need to figure out who your Alex belonged to. Like I said I think I am related on my mother's side to Jernigans or Jarnigans but it is further back which would explain the smaller amount of centimorgans.

Now I believe that Braten's wife's maiden name was Jones which is my maternal Grandfather's family name.

Braten Jernigan was the information I received from my cousin. I told Darlis Jernigan that also. Darlis said when he lowered to a 3 that I match his DNA. That is why I was going on Braten being my Alexander's father.

Alexander "Alex" Jarnagin and his wife Elizabeth Amos Jarnagin are my 3rd great grandparents. They married in Jefferson County, TN on January 5, 1856. After they married they lived in Thorn Hill, TN in Grainger County and that is where my 2nd great grandfather was born. Franklin "Frank" Jarnagin. Frank and his wife Harriett Yount Jarnagin moved to Lee County, White Shoals, Virginia

I work full time so I am trying to put my ancestors in one by one and it just takes time.

Lucille Harrell Lawson

i completely understand. It takes A LOT of time. We will be able to figure it out no rush. :) Did Darlis say how he is related to Braten? There is at least one other relative that is named Braden if I am correct. I am actually looking to see what I can find.

You said 2 different times

My 3rd great grandfather is Alexander "Alex" Jarnagin (spelled on his marriage license) in Jefferson County, TN to Elizabeth Amos (per marriage license) in 1825.

Then you now say

Alexander "Alex" Jarnagin and his wife Elizabeth Amos Jarnagin are my 3rd great grandparents. They married in Jefferson County, TN on January 5, 1856

That is a 30 year difference. Can you post your pedigree so that it might help me help you?

This is Lucille's profile of Alexander

Alexander "Alex" Jarnagin

Anybody have any ideas?

I don't any Alexander in either or my Jernigan lines that married an Elizabeth Amos.

She has got me very curious who this Darlis Jernigan is when I do a one to many on Gedmatch I don't come up with anyone by that name (but he might go under a different name). Not sure

Sorry it should say that I I am not aware of any Alexander in either of my Jernigan lines that married an Elizabeth Amos.
