This quest to find where he came from is overwhelming. The 200th anniversary of his appearance in the US is just a decade or less away.Born June 24, 1814 in Ireland. Some say Portunma, others say Kilaway. They are all foreign to me.
Your children have spread across this land you sought out to be your home. We are trying to find each other and reconnect. We want to celebrate you and in turn celebrate the family that continues on. From your farming roots we have ventured out in the fields of science, sports, medicine/health care, educators, professors, lawyers, accountants, aviation, real estate, photography, authors, researchers, and of course mothers and fathers. Your descendants have served in the military. Yes, even your granddaughters! Some live in other nations, some have searched as missionaries, some speak several languages. You would be proud. We are proud of your bravery . . .
We only know that you had a disagreement with your parents as a teenager and left home. I have so many questions:
When did you come to the US? How old were you? What port did you enter through; Canada, Philadelphia, New York, or New Orleans? What ship? With whom? How did you meet Mary Burtch/Birch/Burch, in Tennessee or Illinois? How did she die, child birth/illness? How did you know Margaret Holmes?
