I've worked on these lines off and on all this year, even collaborated with cousins of my sons (this is his paternal side), and every time I think I'm making some progress, there are still roadbloacks.
My son has two generations of male cousins from his paternal great-uncle Dempsy David Ingram who have all had their Y-DNA tested, as well as another DNA matching cousin who has their same haplogroup, which is a bit of a rare one among the results in the FTDNA Ingram Y-DNA Project. Their matching Y-DNA haplogroup is I-M253.
The men tested are Dempsey David's son John Ingram, John's son Shawn Ingram, my son Len Ingram and another cousin Leland 'Lee" Iingram. Of all these, only my son and I use Geni. I'm trying to get the lines correct on Geni so everyone can get their personal trees correct and all matching.
The problem I've encounted now is that I've been collaborating with Lee's sister Nancy who has a lot of notes on their lines and with Shawn's sister Lora who has a lot of notes on our branch. Both Lora and Nancy have a lot of information handed down from previous generaions and it's not all-inclusive since that was before internet research was possible. We're finding a conflict of information online about the parentage of Goldman Ingram who was married to Jemima Hughley.
The best I can personally sort out is the only way to tie Nancy's DNA matching lines to our lines is if Goldman's parents are John Ingram and Ruth (White) Ingram, as some sites show them connected. The reason for that is the upline Tillman connection which Nancy has many notes on from her family history. She knows she is related to the Tillmans. So that connection 'fits". However, many more sites have Goldman's parents as William Ingram and Sarah Goldman. That makes sense, given that his name is Goldman, but it loses the Tillman connection that Nancy knows she has.
I seriously need help sorting this out. And that doesn't even address the fact that the only two males on these lines who have uploaded their Y-DNA to Geni have conflicting DNA. David Ingram who has R-M269 doesn't match anyone in of my son's, Lora's or Nancy's male family members. It would be wonderful if any other male Ingrams from these lines would add their Y-DNA results to Geni so we could see a '2-out-of-3' match or something.
Meanwhile, Y-DNA aside, any help definitely identifying Goldman's parents would be appreciated. Since there is no curator assigned to this profile, I'm going to reach out to Erica Howton in hopes she might be able to help us.
Thanks,
