Found a reference that Alfred Irvin entered the U.S. Army in March 1918 and was sent to what is now Fort Belvior, Va which was a training camp for Engineers. The unit was designated the Engineering Training Regiment. He was discharged in December 1918 one month after the armistice was signed.
