It would not have been unusual for Alexander to have been just 14 yrs of age when Patrick was born. Doing some research on average of age in the middle ages, I found that the age for females was about 12 yrs and for males was about 14. There's more to just looking for birth, christening, marriage and death records in researching your family history. There's researching what events were occurring during that time, to understand the why's, how's, etc. Like understanding why our ancestors migrated from one place to another. What went on for them to flee their native country? Or was it just for a change? Was it famine? War? Persecution? But in this case it was knowing the average age of marriage and why that might be. The life expectancy was 30-40 yrs old. So it would stand to reason they'd marry young, so they might raise their families to the age of marriage.
