I have asked about this image on a FB group if it for instance is a commissioned painting hanging in the Catharina's Restaurant on the Steenberg estate. A nearby resident said no but believed it can be in the owners' house. It will be for sure not an authentic picture of her and the red hair is a poor choice. Being German she could have been blonde.
Thank you David. I did not tag anyone in my post - merely started a discussion for the profile and if you follow the profile that is why it might have landed in your inbox. I have written to the former art curator at Steenberg and had this response:
I used to work with the collection when Graham Beck owned Steenberg, until mid 2018, but sadly no longer manage the art at Steenberg Hotel and Winery.
That painting would have been purchased, as far as I am aware, when Graham Beck bought the Steenberg property ‘voetstoets’, as it was listed in a document of contents prepared by Vyvyan Myerson, which we had for reference. I can’t be sure without going into our archives, but imagine the document dated from the late 1990s. Vyvyan has since passed away and Catherine could point you to the CEO’s office should you want to try and access information from those listings.
The painting would therefore have been part of the farm’s heritage, and, in my opinion, you would be best to contact the family who used to farm there. I did, years ago, supply a photo to someone who said she was related, so either that was you, or have some other relative to trace too!
