Darryl Lundy’s Peerage may have confused the first Lord Borthwick with his father.
According to the Scots Peerage account of the family of Borthwick, Lord Borthwick, it was Margaret Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick (who died before 7 March 1449-50), the father of the first Lord Borthwick, who was married first to Sir William de Abernethy, and second to William de Douglas.

On the Geni World Tree, it would appear that someone has confused the first Lord Borthwick with his father, and the second Lord Borthwick with the first.

This file for the Borthwick family is completely messed up. It has this William listed as being born in 1350 and his father William Borthwick listed as being born in 1355. There are so many errors regarding this family I don't know where to start, and they are locked fields. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sir William ‘younger’ Borthwick of that Ilk, 2nd of Borthwick
