Is he a Captain?

Sharon, everyone along the east coast of the Gaspe was involved with Cod Fishing. I have to use past tense as there are no Cod left. What a shame. IF you were to do a Google Maps and type in St. George de Malbaie, it might show this small spec of a community, and yes, I mean small. The Lucas family were involved with fishing and did have some fishing boats and it makes sense that William Samuel was a Captain. These fishing boats were small, perhaps 2 or 3 people and all were fishing with hand lines. They would often set out at 3 am and row to bay (they did not go out into the ocean) and return late in the afternoon. Some days and indeed some weeks or months there were no fish. The story of the Cod Fishing industry is quite interesting and sad at the same time. We left that area and moved to Ontario in 1956. I was recently there for a week but it was a drive of 1700 km each way. Have a great day.

So interesting. Thank you.

Sharon, the deeper I got into my research the more interesting and involved these families became. I have focused most of my energies on going back in time and many events that have taken place in the last 50-75 years have been developed by others.
