This entire line of Capt Thomas Harris 1585-1656 of Jamestown is clearly identified on the Family Tree DNA Harris Surname page as M-253, not the R1b1a2 as cited above.,

Private User That indicates a user has a wrong pedigree on geni.

R1b1a2 is from
William Harris, of Louisa County From

William Harris From

Richard Harris From

Thomas Harris From

William Henry Harris From

James Henry Harris

I’m going to disconnect at the first (no name)

I’m reverting the (no name) profiles

Did not solve it. Next thought? See the DNA tab for the DNA tree.

Here’s a DNA report exported to PDF. Can we find the error this way?

This chart contains ancestors of Robert Harris d1701 of Haris DNA Grouo 6, Ria1b1.

Correction, the line should be I- M253 for Capt Thomas Harris.

The entire line from William Harris d1678 should be deleted., that means the person claiming R1aa1b1 haplo Group does not descend from Capt Thomas Harro d1658 but rather Robert Harris d17-1 in Harris Group 6.

Are we saying that William Harris, of Louisa County is the same person as Captain William Harris of Hanover County? Is the wife Temperance Overton or Mary Giles? And is there a reliable external link so we can reconcile the kids?

Benjamin Harris of Hanover County Has profile notes identifying his parents as William Harris & Temperance.

I’m wondering if Mary Harris is actually the same as the other Mary Giles who married Thomas Harris & who is missing geni children (Thomas Harris of Cubb Creek & Mary Harris)

Col William Harris and wives Lucy and Alice Stewart are defined in FTDNA Harris Group 8 while William Harris and Temoerance Overton are in Harris Group 6.

Is William Harris, of Louisa County correctly the son of Major William Harris & husband of Mary Harris? If he’s right, it’s one (or more) of the children attached to him that are in the wrong place, and propogating the wrong DNA.

Who is the private user? - recently we were speaking about Major William Harris as being his correct father-

it's difficult when a private user comes in and pops in YDNA without a name - can we figure out who came from? I would hope it's a direct male Harris only-

Son of <private> Decker and <private> Pollard This is the trail I found ?

The error is at the Williams as posted above I think. It’s very difficult for me to figure out. Presume your aunt was correct - which child of Temperance?

Extracted for reference and to add to profiles.

Group 06 (R-M269, etc.) - Robert Harris (c1635-1701) of New Kent Co., VA & other lineages
Y DNA Haplogroup R-M269

Group 8. Capt. Thomas Harris (c1586-1658) of Jamestown and Henrico Co., VA & other lineages
Y DNA Haplogroup I-M253

This solved it. Benjamin Harris of Hanover County Was the son of Captain William Harris of Hanover County & Temperance Harris (as noted on his profile). He had been merged into the wrong Harris family.

The Y DNA lines should now be correct.
