As a matter of information, James Gilbert Hoyle was my paternal GrandFather. I have always known his birthday to be 2/16/1880 and that was how we celebrated it. His sister, Mandy "Dovie" Leatherwood, lived north of us in Caldwell County and I understand her birth date was 10/22/1879. As of 8/10/2020 I have not researched her correct birth day but this would (if correct) place Gill being born 4 months after Mandy, which would be impossible.
Documentation:
The 1880 Census records were destroyed by fire, thus they are unavailable;
The marriage certificate dated 5/28/1912 for Gill (and age 25) and Ollie (and age 20) would have have their birth years for Gill as 1887 and Ollie as 1892.
Gill's WW1 draft card has his birth date as 2/16/1881;
1940 Census taken on 4/ 22/1940 had Gill as being 60 years of age (birth year 1880) while Ollie was 48 (birth year 1892);
The birth certificate for daughter Gladys Hoyle, born 10/16/1914 gave Gill's age as 28 (birth year 1886) and Ollie's age as 20 (birth year 1894 which is wrong).
