Other than James II he is identified as a Mariner as was his father. When he came to America he was further identified as James Mariner Planter. he is now a sea going man and an owner of land. I have record of james being transported here in 1683. I believe he Married Jane Armelies Lawton first and they had one son known as Old James. and We know for sure he married Dorothy Petty in 1675 and that they were together for 8 years, for in a settlement of Dorothy and James Mariner Planter in 1699 he disavows having anything to do with Dorothy for the past 16 years, James mariner Planter did die in England I have an official burial record. James Mariner Planter did marry Martha Poel in 1694 and if Josias was born 2-27-1688 he could belong to either Dorothy or Martha. Since the now found Bible record states that Josias's father was James lawton Fugate and Dorothy this is one of the ways James Mariner Planter has been referred to, We also know that James II could read and write for in early hard copy documents I have have record where he wrote his name while others like Peter 1650 used their mark. I believe Josias was born before 1688 and that James Mariner Planter and Dorothy a his parents. I am interested in any records anyone has on the marriage of Emaline and Johnson.

Robert J, Fugate Hi Robert, So you are stating that Josias born 2-27-1688 is the son of a James ll Lawton Fugate and Dorothy Petty (M) 1675 or possibly Martha Poel (m) 1694. When did James ll Lawton Fugate die in England? Love this information. Thank You

If you are talking about James Mariner Planter Fugate, who has the same BD of sometime in 1652, I made a mistake he did not die in England. He died in Essex County VA in 1703. The full name of his second wife is Martha Van Der Poel who he married in 10 August 1694. I find in Martha's and James II household a step son Captain Josias Fugate of Martha, therefore he would be the son of James II. I also find in the Johnson and Emaline Lambe Fugate Johnson married in 1656. Checking the Johnson and Em household i find them in British America and James II listed as step son in the Johnson household. Again he is the son of Em and the step son of Johnson. So, James II came over here with his mother Em and husband Johnson. I am going to dig farther and find out when he really came here. I am also not sure that Peter 1650 is the son of james II and Emaline. I believe he is not their son. I also believe that Josias Fugate's BD to be earlier than 27-Feb.-1689 and that he is the son of James II and Dorothy Petty. By chasing through he line I Find official record showing her father to be Thomas Petty. Now we know how to spell her name. I am going to go into the Johnson and Em household today to try to find out exactly when James II came to America.

My Y DNA matches Peter A 1610, Josias Fugate and His son Colbert's. My direct goes up to William Fugate died 1808 who we all believe is the son Martin Fugate and Sarah Henley Clark. Martin Fugate is the known son of Josias Fugate. We do know that William was living in Martin Fugate's household, but we do not find clearly listed as his son. I am now sure that Josias's father was James II 1652 and Dorothy Petty. From Peter A or Aleston Fugate my DNA match I know for sure that his father is either Peter Adeline Fugate or Tobias Fugate both born in 1585 and could be twins. Tobias married Elizabeth Fuller in 1628 she was born 1588 Isle of Wight England. The twins born 1610 Peter Aleston A and Peter AA could be the sons of Elizabeth Fuller prior to her marriage to Tobias Fugate, and there is an early son in their household born 1600 who may not be Elizabeth's Child for she would have only been 12 years old at the time. Elizabeth and Tobias both died 1640 Isle of Wight England, Maybe from the Bubonic Plague 1637 to 1640 in England. I find Peter Adeline Fugate died 1638 and buried in France. I believe that twins run in the male genes starting with Peter Adeline, Tobias and Their sons, and then James II an Emaline Lambe with William and James Mariner Planter Fugate being born after the death of their father about 8 or 9 months after his death.

The earlier Genealogist Had trouble with Martha's Poel last name, thought it could be Powell, Who married James II 1652 in 10 August 1694. By tracing backwards and using her name and having worldwide privileges on Ancestry.com I quickly found her name Martha Van Der Poel and her lineage. The Van Der Poel's are Dutch and come from Amsterdam Holland. This reinforces info I heard from my father passed down though the family line verbally that some of our ancestors were Black Dutch. It is interesting and I will follow that line as far as I can

I often feel like there are two Josias's out there and we say they spell one Josias and other times Josiah. If we had used dates and mainly birthdates we would eliminate lots of confusion. As an example in the transporting documents we just find the James and the last name spelled different ways. Without some identifying date how do we know who we are referring to or talking about.

Concerning Martha Poel. who married James II in 1694. Many have wondered about the spelling of her last name. Searching on Ancestry.com I have found her real and Father and grandfather. Martha Van Der Poel, so the spelling of Poel recorded correctly but just not completely
