Would appreciate assistance with determining the parents of Mary Ann Troost (1812-1872) who was purportedly a niece of someone known as William Gillis the Indian Trader (William Gillis, the indian trader) 1797-1869

Is the an MP for William?

Pretty sure you've already been here:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/74965188/mary-ann-troost

but maybe someone at the Children's Home has info on her? Maybe the lawyer's office who handled the trust would know something? They tend to stay in business for generations....Just throwing things out there....

Good luck!

Marsha

we have been there.
There have been several lawsuits from children from William, all claims to share in the heritage off him.
Until now it is hard to find the name of his brother. Father of Mary.
The name off the parents from both brothers is not known until now.

Only on a site which Alex provided, there is some info. But we don't use that for the moment , because we want a to have a good source.

William was my G3 grandfather. He deeded everything to M Troost. Troost was his niece.
His relationships were legion. My DNA includes some "Cameroon" to give you an idea.
Williams father was Thomas Gilliss (MD) b. abt 1756 d. bef 23 Apr 1800.
William's mother is a guess. Right now I go with Eleanor "Nelly" Morris b. 1756 d. 1850
eleanor was married to LEVIN GILLISS (William's brother) until his death in 1815.
I have the paperwork for the lawsuits. All claims failed. None could claim Cherokee lineage either, which is true (remember, DNA).
Would be interesting to know if someone has definitive documentation on William's parentage. I suspect vital records may have been destroyed in one of the wars.
