Hello Melanie my cousin. Thank you for your efforts in extending the Matus Family Tree. Sadly my mother did not get along with my dad's family and vice versa. It's a long story. As a result I never met my grandparents on my father's side. I do remember Grandpa Joseph dying but only because my father left for a couple of days and my mother explained that it was because his father had died.
I did know all my uncles except Charles. and we visited several with some regularity; Morris and Doris, Frank and Frances; Dave and Sophie; and their children. I didn't know your father.
So great to hear from you. I am so sorry to learn you didn't get to know your grandparents - family relationships can be complicated. I'm also sorry you didn't get to know my dad!! He was a lovely man - very special, kind, gentle, quiet. He was a pediatrician who was beloved by his patients - he was also brilliant...probably one of the smartest most learned individuals I have ever known. The medical gene ran in the family. Sadly he passed away in 2015 from Parkinson's disease. He often talked about how much he loved growing up in New England (North Conway). It sounds like it was a wonderful childhood. My parents moved to St Paul, Minnesota, in the late 1960s and so I only saw Manny and Mary Matus (my grandparents) on a rare occassion. It was sad as we didn't have any immediate family in Minnesota at all - not my mother's either. So, I truly missed having those family connections. It's very nice to work on this family tree and I am AMAZED at how large our family actually is/was!!!
