John Lindsay, 5th Lord Lindsay - marriages

I have found on other sites that Helen only had 4 children with John and that he had 3 wives . a Jan Jillian Smelser and Catherine Strachan and that maybe Marie (Mary) was Jan's daughter born in1530 and that Cathine had son John in 1536 . how could that be?
would really like to know because John Lindsay's daughter married a Cochran according to the writings of the Cochran Family i'm trying to find out if i am following the right tree. thank you melissabader@ ktis.net
