My main interest in genealogy is its ability to personalize the history of America. The is one purpose of my website CommonAncestors.net. Because most of my mother's immigrant ancestors arrived before 1700, the study of her ancestors and relatives led to a lot of interesting discoveries and connections to the founding and development of Our Country. I would like to now learn more about my father's ancestors and relatives.

Thus far, the most noteworthy Bartholomew ancestor appears to be Heinrich Bartholomew who drove a wagon that carried some of the treasury from Philadelphia to the Allentown PA area during the revolutionary war.

The most interesting Bartholomew relatives were members of the Mussina family. My father's mother's mother was named Phoebe Ann Mussina. Their history in America, began shortly after the American Revolution, when two brothers (Lyons and Zachariah) and a sister arrived in Philadelphia around 1790 from Poland, While our ancestor settled in Aaronsburg, PA, Zachariah traveled to Missouri and eventually drownded in Florida while trying to cross a river. His two sons Jacob and Simon were active in New Orleans and Texas where Simon founded Brownsville, Texas with Charles Stillman. Charles became one of the richest Americans. His son and grandson led what became Citi Bank. His daughters married Rockefellers. One descendant James Stillman Rockefeller, who also was president of the bank, married Nancy Carnegie. Her ancestors include Andrew Carnegie and the Ezekiel Sanford. Ezekiel built the bridge in 1686 that resulted in the naming of the town of Bridgehampton.in Long Island.

My mother's uncle married Matilda Marilda Pickle whose mother and father were both descendants of the immigrant Rockefeller ancestor. Our ancestor Josiah Stanborough founded Sagg in 1656 that is now called Sagaponack and is part of Bridgehampton.
The Sanford lot is on the west side of the bridge and two Stanborough lots on the east side of the lot.

Bridgehampton represents one historic connection between the Bartholomew and Babbitt families. My mother's morher's mother was named Mary Axtell Thompson. Some town near the border of Pennsylvania and New York has a very high percentage of Bartholomew and Axtell surnames. We presume that this town holds additional historic connections.

The net effect of all this is invite you to visit CommonAncestors.Net in the future as we periodically update that website and also let us know about possible Bartholomew connections to American history. .
