A bigamist?
He married Cecilija Zidar in 1876 in Šentrupert, 4 years later he is single and getting married, while his wife is apparently still alive.

Vinko Mikec and Marija Mikec had 10 children between 1835 and 1853. At least 5 of them died young.
Franjo, Anton Mikec is not one of them according to my source. His date of birth is the same as that of Franjo.

There's something fishy here. If Franjo, Anton Mikec was indeed born in 1838 he wouldn't have 2 younger brothers with the same name. Maybe Franjo was a poligamist?

Not just that Franjo's wife was alive when he married Ana Marija Zanchi, she was pregnant with their son. Ana Marija died shortly after.

I looked at his wedding witnesses - they include bride's relatives from Makarska and my husband's GGfather, those people could have not known Franc for more than 2 months. Usually, people who were getting married - if they were from other parts of Austro Hungarian empire had to produce documentation (written permissions from their place of birth, written in notes field) , there was nothing for this Franc. He must have charmed them all.

I will try to see if they had any children.

Actually, looking back to Franjo and Antun - they must be same person. Antun's marriage was 3 months after Franjo's wife Ana Maria died

Why would he use a different name for the second marriage?
For the second marriage - none of the witnesses were from Metkovic where he lived, only bride's relatives.

Very fishy.
