I am currently tracing my family history with a view to having it published this year. I have traced my Great great Grandfather William Roney (Rooney) who joined the Dublin Metropolitan police on the 23rd. December 1824, and served in the Dublin district for 11 years first as a sub-constable and then Constable. He next appears as a 3rd. Sub-Inspector in Waterford in 1835. I have found records stating that he was Chief Constable in Dungarvan County Waterford, appointed in 1836.

He lived in Glenard House, Hackestown, Old Parish, with his wife francis and 3 children. However he also had an affair with a local girl in Ardmore Mary Theresa Fitzgerald with whom he had two children. A daughter Mary and a son Thomas my great Grandfather. When his wife Francis died in 1868 William married Mary Theresa in 1870, the same year he resigned form the RIC as Chief Inspector for Longford. It is after that that the trail is lost. According to the RIC pension records, his pension was to be paid in "London per letter 11/11/11, no address stated dated from Bologne Sur Mer" ????. We understand that he died somewhere in County Sligo and based on the RIC pension register this was on the 21st. Oct. 1887.

Not sure where to go from here any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
