Gerhard III born 1028 appears as son of Gerhard II born 1048. It is unclear which spouses and children are correct for each.

1028 as birth year is clearly incorrect and sourceless, so it was omitted. There may remain other inconsistenties in such an 11th-century branch.

At the beginning of the 11th century , a family of counts with the leading name Gerhard appeared in Jülichgau . Gerhard I is count in Jülichgau from 1003 to 1029, followed by Gerhard II (1029-1081), Gerhard III. (1081-1114), Gerhard IV. (1114-1127), Gerhard V. (1127-1138) and Gerhard VI. (1138-1142). Gerhard III is registered for the first time with the surname comes de Julicho . With Wilhelm I. (1142–1176) the Counts of Jülich became the Counts of Jülichgau.
