From John McIntosh

“There is a yDNA haplogroup given for William in FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA). It is R-M198 or R1a. Another matching person with Hume surname has a BigY analysis which takes the analysis to more detail R-M198 > YP276 > YP5725 > BY103924. Do you think the R1a haplogroup is correct? If it is, it appears to put the ancestral yDNA as Scandinavian and entering Britain before the Viking era.”

——

“ The thing about this R1a haplogroup is that there are weight of numbers bearing the Hume surname, one claims descent from Sir William de Home giving his name and email address, two others name their ancestor as a descendant of William and one, I think, anticipates an ancestor for William. The majority just have their Hume/Home surname.”

“Firstly, I wondered if the managers thought the claim of the R1a descendants was wrong.

“Secondly, because the claim has reasonably large number of testers bearing the Hume surname I thought it worth posting a summary of the test results and invite others to comment or dispute the claim.

To post nothing when test result exist seems disinterested to me, when the site has a large number of managers.”

Erica,
Is it possible to post the DNA result from FamilyTreeDNA on the DNA tab for William? There are a number of Hume/Home testers and their results are in the public domain but not all can inspect the identity of the tester. Then others can challenge this if they think there is an inconsistency.
