According to Rev. John Gano's own memoirs (linked and quoted here Francois ‘Francis’ Gerneaux) he was the son of Daniel Gano and Sarah Britton (aka Brittain).

His grandparents were Stephen Gano and Ann Walton, and his g-grandfather was Francis Gano (he evidently didn't know the name of his g-grandmother).

He married a Stites (presumably Sarah Mary Stites).

With his wife he had 11 children:

Seven sons, JOHN JR (presumably died young), DANIEL III, STEPHEN III (Revolutionary War Surgeon), JOHN JR, ISAAC II, RICHARD, and WILLIAM

Four daughters, MARGARET, SARAH III, "DAUGHTER" (presumably died young), and SUSANNAH III

I looked over his kinship connections, adding a few siblings that were missing.

Then I checked his children, and most of then look okay. He did have one daughter whose name is not given on the Pedigree. I'm not sure if she died young, or what. She might be mentioned in his memoirs, for all I know.

And he had two sons named after himself (John), so presumably the first one died in infancy. I didn't add the second John (maybe later).

But this is really puzzling: William Gano an unnamed son who was added by the same user just two days after another unnamed daughter (who never married or had children, yet): William Gano

Now what's really strange (to me anyway) is the first one with only 8 descendants (but a real doozy of one that is unsubstantiated as far as I can tell):

1) William Gano

He has two "FNU" children, a son and a daughter who are half-siblings, both unmarried -- yet both have children. And I don't know about anyone else, but I'm losing count of all the FNU Ganos here:

2) John Gano

--> 3) Private

--> 4) Harry Anderson Gano

--> 5) Vice Admiral Roy Alexander "Red" Gano (USN)
____________________________________________

2) FNU Burbridge

--> 3) Brevet Maj. General (USA), Stephen "Butcher" Burbridge

So, do these military officers really have such sketchy ancestry, and how accurate are these lines of unmarried FNUs? And do they have duplicates somewhere?

I searched both of them, and only found the one profile for General Stephen Burbridge (Civil War, Union Army).

But there is a duplicate for the Vice Admiral:

Vice Admiral Roy Alexander "Red" Gano (USN)

His tree, although it identifies both parents, is actually not connected to the World Tree.

So I just found another ball of yarn to untangle. Hope somebody has a chance to look at it and maybe has time to tidy it up some. I honestly don't know what to do with it (besides it's late now and I'm tired, :D ).

Oops, that's TWO "doozies" on the same mostly anonymous branch.

The merging helped. See Private

See Stephen "Jeno" Gano, Jr.

His parents are listed as

Son of Etienne Stephen Gayneau 1654–1725 • LVQL-PYL who married 1 Aug 1679 Staten Island, Richmond, New York, United States to Susannah Usselton 1658–1712 •

But your notes are that Son of Etienne Stephen Gayneau 1654–1725 • LVQL-PYL who married 1 Aug 1679 Staten Island, Richmond, New York, United States to Susannah Usselton 1658–1712 •

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/family/KGJV-RD1 did not have a son Stephen.

Do we have two different Etienne / Stephen born in the 1650s or so?

Better tagging !

Stephen Gayneau

Who was his wife? What happened to Ann Walton?

The children of Stephen Gano and Susanna Usselton were:

1. Stephen Gano was born in 1680 in Staten Island, Richmond, New York, and died in 1722/1731. He married Nealthe circa 1703 in Staten Island, Richmond, ....

His children are obscure, we have grand children recorded. That explains the FNUs.

But we do seem to have this Stephen.
