(Reproducing my note at the other profile):
Two men have been combined in this profile, which, until I tentatively edited it in the last day or so, identified it as the profile of a Max/Morris Barkan. I began to explore it when Geni pointed out how young the wife, Rose, would have to have been at the time the older three children of the seven children were born.
My research:
* There was a MAX Barkan with a wife consistently listed as ROSIE Barkan dwelling in Madison, New Jersey, according to the US census of 1910, the NJ census of 1915, and the US census of 1920. Only the three boys Jacob, Samuel, and Joseph, are listed in 1910; only Samuel and Joseph in 1915, and none of them in 1920. These younger four children (Celia, Reba, Mollie, Benjamin) were all born by 1911, the elder three before 1910, yet none of them appears on the MAX Barkan census. MAX was born in February 1870 and ROSIE in March 1883, per the NJ census, which asked for dates of birth. MAX had been in the US since 1906.
* A MORRIS Barkan with a wife consistently listed as ROSE Barkan dwelling in Philadelpha had four children: Celia (born in Russia), Reba (born in Switzerland), Mollie (born in the US), and Benjamin (born in the US). MORRIS completed a petition for naturalization on December 1, 1914, indicating birth on August 1, 1876, in Vitebsk, Russia, and arrival in the US on August 25, 1907, and listing wife Rose and the four children.
These are two different people. They can be split up, but I don't know which of them belongs to my family tree. This question boils down to: which of the Roses/Rosies is my great great aunt Rose Sheftel from Iwje?
