Hello, I'm Riley (Laura) Mackey. I'm the great grand-daughter of Fred here. I was looking up the military record of Fred's brother John Albert Mackey who died in WW1 in France. On a scanned copy of his Attestation for General Service that he completed on 27 April 1917, John listed his parents as John Edward Mackey and ELIZABETH Mackey, not Bridget. I think therefore this record on geni is probably incorrect. A scanned copy of this Attestation can be found: https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?...

I hope this goes some way towards finding out more information about my great grandmother for me and the other descendants of John Edward Mackey.:)

If it's legal to download that document you can attach it to John Edward's profile as a source.

I can see a reference to an aunt as well that isn't on the tree yet, Edith Mackey. Since it lists his mother as deceased, perhaps Bridget is a 2nd wife of his father.

Hi Jonathan, Yes quite possibly. I have had a further look at other connections and it is possible that Elizabeth was also known as Bridget. Though I couldn't find any documentation to support other than connected geni logs. I've only just started down this rabbit hole! My goodness. I can see why genealogy is a hobby :) I also saw mention of Edith Mackey. I'm not sure if she is related by birth or marriage. It's possible she is John Edward's sister, though like with Elizabeth/Bridget could not find documentation and it warrants further investigation! I am fascinated how the family has spread out all over New Zealand, though it all ties back to Otago/Canterbury.
