Matthew Roberts was born 23/01/1862 in Upper Hutt , New Zealand, his parents are James and Mary -they did not marry . Matthew Roberts children and wife had no idea who his father was, the story they had was that his parents were not allowed to marry and Matthew was raised by his maternal grand-parents,Ann and Thomas Roberts as their son. In December 2019, having seen the name James, listed as Mattew's father, on NZ BDM index I purchased his birth certificate and this document revealed that James Judd and Mary Roberts are his parents. A personal DNA match with one of James relatives has confirmed the match.
Two young teenagers had a relationship and produced a child, who was raised in a loving family, but Matthew never knew where he totally came from, it has felt healing to close this gap in our family ancestry and have our heritage restored.
