Hi All,

I apologise in advanced as I don't speak or read any other language other than English. I live in Australia however my dad was born in Finland but grew up in Sweden before coming out to Australia; his parents were Ingrian Finns from Skouritsa. None of my dads side of the family that are still living know much about my family tree...actually very little.

I have a copy of my grandfathers war record and my grandmothers evacuation card from Ingria and I have heard a few stories but other then that I know nothing about my family tree. I know my grandmothers parents names but not my grandfathers.

I do understand records from that era may not have been kept and are very hard to come by but I am hoping someone on the web can help fill in blanks or point me in the right direction.

My grandfathers surname is Kemppi and my grandmothers maiden name is Hytti.

Thanks

Jade

Hi Jade, Have you followed fb-site Ingria. I think that you should. You could also take contact to email address: suomeninkeriliitto.sukututkim@gmail.com. They help you to get information of youd dad`s roots.

Hi Jade!
This record could be about Isac Hytti: http://www.inkeri.ru/rep/peoples/?id=12944
Hytti Isaak Abraminpoika, born 1879, born and lived in Kezelevo in Skuoritsa (could it be Kemppilä-village?), arrested 31.08.37 and was shot 21.10.37 in Leningrad.

You should also browse www.familysearch.org - there metric books (parish records) from 1834 to 1885 there.
I think the birth record of Issak Hytti is here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-68LQ-F2Z?i=8&w...
Isaak Hytti, born 15 April 1875, baptism 22 April 1879. Father: Abram Adamssohn Hytti from Kesälä, mother Anna Hämäläinen

The State Historical Archive of Saint Petersburg has also a collection metric books from 1892 to 1917: https://spbarchives.ru/infres/-/archive/cgia/2294/1
and a collection of documents from the church in the parish: https://spbarchives.ru/infres/-/archive/cgia/1971/1
Some documents are scanned and could be read online for a small access fee.

See also some documents on www.inkeri.ru: http://www.inkeri.ru/virt/p.php?id=31

Helena - Yes I am on that facebook group. Thanks for the email address will send an email.

Karl - Isakki was born in that year but family stories say he was shot in 1942 in Leningrad by communist. Will check the links out though.
Apart from his name no one knows if he had a middle name or who his parents were. I am on Ancestry but have not had much luck with this side of my family tree.

Here's Aatami Kemppi's birth, n:o 235 on the left side:

In the Archive of Finland www.arkisto.fi there is a collection of card evacuated Ingrians Inkerin siirtoväen väestökortit: http://digi.narc.fi/digi/dosearch.ka?sartun=245791.KA Unfourtunately one has to apply for the access to the card and theay could be seen at the archive's offices. The collection is here: http://digi.narc.fi/digi/dosearch.ka?sartun=245791.KA
The cards contain information about names, birth dates, parents, siblings and children, spoken languages, accupation, sometimes a photo. And a date of returning to USSR or some other information.
I think you can contact the archive and order a copy of the cards. They did it before for a fee.

Teemu - Thanks, unfortunately I have never been good at reading running writing which makes family research documents impossible to read. I even struggle with documents that are in english but are written like that. I am hopeless haha!

Jade, you write that you are on Ancestry.
I think you should upload your DNA test results to www.familytreedna.com and www.myheritage.com or order a test. There are more Finns there.
FamilyTreeDNA has also tests for Y-chromosome. I would recommed a FamilyFinder and Y-37 for you father to start with. There could be a chance that there are other male relatives with Y-chromosome test.

Karl - sounds like a great idea! Will try and work out how to do it.

Jade, I don't know if this will be much help to you but we had family friends in the Toronto, Canada area whose last name was Kemppi--Jaaska, I think the man's name was. He was from Inkeri but I don't know where. My father was from Suuri-Suojala, Vuole.

Hey Lea,

Kemppi from my understanding is a common last name in Finland/Ingria. So it is a bit of a needle in the hay stack.
