Ms. Curtis, are you discussing Layne Compton b. 1824 VA/ d. 1895 Lawrence Co., KY? The son of Hiram Compton (1800-1874 KY) an Jenny Shannon (1801-1832)? This particular Layne Compton was my 2x great grandfather, through his second marriage to Mary McDowell (1828-1854) in Nov 1850 Lawrence Co., KY. Through their son Wilson Perry Compton Sr (1851-1930 KY) and his marriage to Mary LouAnna Wolfe (1858-1934) in 1873 Lawrence Co., KY, through their son Wilson (aka William/Willie) Perry Compton Jr (1886-1969) and his first marriage to Gladys O. Daugherty (1910-1971 KY) in Pike Co., KY, through their second son, my father. My ancestor Layne Compton was married four times: Melsena Hatton in 1847; Mary McDowell 1850; Louisa Levisy Miller in 1854; and Abagail Little a widow who outlived Layne, but they had no children together. It has been determined through a FTDNA Y-DNA Compton Surname Project, with the DNA testing results and sourced documentation of myself and my male Compton first cousin, that my male Compton first cousin matched other documented and DNA tested Compton descendants of Layne Compton and his grandfather John Compton Jr (m. Eleanor McGuire), to have the haplogroup I-M253.
There is a line of Compton's from NC into Russell Co., VA that migrated into Pike Co., KY who fall under James Compton (Revolutionary Patriot) and his wife Frances Herndon, through their son Thomas Compton that have tested with the resulting haplogroup R-M269. So, these two lines of Compton's, even though lived within the same region of Virginia during the late 1700's into the late 1800's, are not biologically related. Too many people have attempted to link the two lines, due to similar given names, but with deep research and knowledge of the family's histories, one can determine they are not closely associated.
How are you related?
Thanks,
Sandi Compton Mayo
Thank you, Private User
I will follow up soon but my comment was in regards to who or what led me to the profile to begin with.
I help a lot of people but of course my main mission is to have a DNA proved tree and use traditional genealogy as much as possible
I just lost a fur baby last week and yesterday we got bad news about another one. It’s taking a bit out of me because I am an empty nester and these are my constant companions.
Thank you for any and all assistance
Ms. Curtis, you mention that you want to make a DNA connection? I am a direct descendant of Layne Compton, and my paternal male Compton cousin took a Y-DNA test through FTDNA at my request. His Y-111 results put him under the haplogroup I-M253, the same as other Y-DNA tested and documented descendants of Layne Compton and his father Hiram Compton, and Hiram's father John Compton Jr (1756-1828). I have autosomal results with 23andMe, Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FTDNA. The RZ haplogroup that has been attached by Ryan Compton is more consistent with being a male descendant of James Compton Revolutionary Patriot and wife Frances Herndon, through their sons, Thomas Compton, and making a familial connection to Aquilla Compton also. How are you related to the Compton line? Sorry for your loss.
Layne Compton is your 7th cousin four times removed.

Sandi Compton Mayo thank you so much. We empty nested decades ago and our dogs are wonderful companions. This little boy dog was such a gift in that he chose me lol. Thank you for your kind words.
Let me look at Ancestry and see if I can recall what I was doing in the area of the Laynes in Feb of 2020... I still have brick walls and that is likely what I was trying to build a path to then same as I do now
The MyHeritage link on profile has one wife--- the one I had pre merge:

Mary Compton
Delilah Compton Delilah Ward who married Shadrach Ward is my husband's 4th great grandmother-- let me check his path--- may be HIS line I was working on...
Still need to confirm these three wives for Layne Compton is correct
Let's add this to his profile, Sandi Compton Mayo! Your research is important <3:
Layne Compton was married four times:
Melsena Hatton in 1847;
Mary McDowell 1850;
Louisa Levisy Miller in 1854; and
Abagail Little a widow who outlived Layne, but they had no children together.

I am hopeful to be able to assign them correctly as this is a DNA line for me."
I still am looking for my reason for this comment---
I have an unknown connection to Little. I have a direct line for Miller and McDowell.
My husband and I share Foote and my uncle and his aunt literally DNA match on the X at 23&me for the Foote couple.
Funny thing is that "we" do genealogy publicly and yet still attempt to retain some privacy lol
We have to have privacy. So this is a little dance we do I say.
I cross posted asking for help to correct the Y lines for Compton as they are presently wrong per Sandi's assertion in another Discussion.

Presently shows as a 7th cousin once removed but should be closer...
My husband and I both have WARD. This appears to be someone on my Ward/Webber.
You mention WARD. My great grandmother Mary Louanna Wolfe Compton had an older sister named Martha Wolfe who married a WARD. Their daughter married an Arbie Porter Sr and I made contact with Arbie Lyman Porter jr in 2003. We communicated for many years about our WOLFE line. He is passed on now. I was not researching his WARD family history, but I am sure he had lots. Mr. Porter had no children with his wife Ann.
It appears that the original DNA attached to Layne and Hiram Compton has been removed.
Sandi Compton Mayo the Y DNA is no longer attached because the curator(s) were able to trace the steps you gave citing who was descended from whom :D
PM me if you would like to compare DNA. I have several kits. The DNA match I have with PRIVATE above who is a son of William M. Compton
Not sure yet how we are related...
The William M. Compton, son of Henry Felix Compton is related to me. Henry Felix Compton was a younger half brother to my great grandfather Wilson Perry Compton Sr., b. 1851, son of Layne Compton b. 1824 VA; d. 1895 KY and Louisa "Levicy" Miller Compton (Layne's 3rd wife). This William M. Compton and my grandfather William Perry Compton Jr., b. 1886; d. 1969, would have been first cousins.

I am looking at the pushpin
https://www.geni.com/path/William-Compton+is+related+to+Wilson-Comp...:
Wilson Perry Compton, Sr. is William M. Compton's uncle.
William M. Compton
→ Henry Felix Compton
his father → Layne Compton
his father → Wilson Perry Compton, Sr.
his son
Would be a half uncle-- share
As the Geni sits, you and my DNA match are HALF second cousins, one generation removed.
He comes through the MILLER wife
William Perry Compton Sr comes through the McDowell wife.
Correct?
Wilson Perry Compton, Sr. is Henry Felix Compton's half brother.
Henry Felix Compton
→ Layne Compton
his father → Wilson Perry Compton, Sr.
his son

correction of my deleted comment above
The person namaging my DNA match's Gedmatch is showing LITTLE as the mother of Wilson Perry Compton, Sr. Wilson Perry Compton, Sr.
We need to make sure the correct wives are attached as the correct mothers :/
My MILLER is a brick wall on my paternal side.
My McDowell is DNA confirmed-- autosomal and X and ancient due to IRVINE DNA studies, maternal.
LITTLE is a yet unknown line for me and is paternal at Ancestry and on Gedmatch....
this is so hard some days lol
Cynthia, I should clarify that Henry Felix Compton is the son of Layne Compton and Louisa "Levicy" Miller Compton, and my great grandfather Wilson Perry Compton Sr., was a son to Layne Compton and Mary McDowell, thus making Henry and Wilson half brothers. Claude Compton's DNA manager, his great nephew, I believe, has been in contact with me for years. We are Facebook friends, too.
Yes, this is the same as noted above
Sandi Compton Mayo can you contact him about his MyHeritage tree? He shows mother to be LITTLE unless his tree has changed and the Smart Match index had not
I am excited to work on this match as soon as I can... most important for me is getting them correct in Geni because this is how I connect those relationships not yet known -- I have too many brick walls still *sigh
Cynthia, do you know if DNA test results form other companies can be uploaded to our Geni profiles? I have tested through Ancestry, 23andMe, FTDNA, and DNA Consultants. I thought I had tested through MyHeritage, too, but can't be for sure. I manage my paternal first cousin's and my maternal aunt's DNA results and have uploaded them to GedMatch for comparisons.
Sandi Compton Mayo the connection has to be from FtDNA.
They talked about other options but that didn't materialize.
You can test at FtDNA or you can UPLOAD your raw DNA from elsewhere TO FamilytreeDNA and then you attach that DNA from FtDNA to your DNA tab here on Geni.
If you are connecting someone else's DNA to another profile, be sure it is the correct profile --- the DNA must be from the donor.
