I was always told that he was a lawyer and believed strongly in education for his children - boys and girls alike. Is there any way that I can find out if he was a lawyer?

According to the household books för Ljungby parish he was 'torpare' - a small scale farmer. Often translated crofter or cotter, but that is not an exact equivalent.
