Yiskor Book for the Siedlce Community

I want to give you a progress report on the translation of the Yiskor book Sefer yizkor le-kehilat Shedlets or the Memorial Book of the Community of Siedlce. But first, I hope that you are all healthy and safe and I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.

I am very grateful for the enormous work that Ted Steinberg has been doing. Over the past 18 months, he has translated more than two-thirds of the 809 pages of this book. I especially enjoyed reading the chapter Peretz in a Pogrom City. P. 524. It’s about the visit of this great author, a rock star, to our humble shtetl. The section, Destruction of Siedlce, is disheartening to read. It is full of despair but also resilience. The chapter, I Survived the German Extermination of Jews, P.626, was translated by Anita Gabby. I am grateful for her contribution.
