Greetings,

An interested party emailed our help desk with the following corrections, for your consideration:

This profile says that France Goffe nee Whalley was born in Cambridgeshire in 1610.

This is incorrect; her parents William Whalley [NOTE DIFFERENT NAME -Mike] & Judith Duffell didn't marry until 1626. Although I can't find a birth record for France Goffe nee Whalley, she was most likely born in London in 1636. NOTE: There are at least 2 France Goffes; France Goffe nee Whalley's first child was also France Goffe II, born 1653

This makes it impossible for France Goffe nee Whalley to be the mother of Richard Goffe in Waterford in 1645 - Frances Goffe would have only been 9 years old

Added to this is that Irish records were not systematically kept until 1864. I believe these errors may arise from entries in Burke's Peerage, a source known to be inaccurate,

Note that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Goffe names her “daughter of Gen. Edward Whalley” (not William):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Whalley

He married first on 7 February 1626 at St Dunstan's Church, Stepney, to Judith Duffell (or Duffield) of Rochester, Kent, by whom, besides other children, he had a son John and a daughter Frances (who married William Goffe, another regicide). His second marriage was to Mary Middleton, sister of Sir George Middleton, by whom he had two sons, Henry and Edward.[4]

So this may take more genealogical exploration.

I’ve added more secondary sources & adjusted dates. The son Richard Goffe of Waterford seems decently attested. Particularly see the study here:

https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/goff/3124/

6.1645? –1650: William Goffe married to Frances Whalley, dau of Col. Edward Whalley,before1650, exact date unknown; (Jagger, G. The Fortunes of the Whalley Family of Screvton Notts (1973) pp114, fn 2 PRO)The daughters born to this marriage were: Elizabeth, Frances, Judith (Coll Mass Hist. Soc. (1868) 4th ser. Vol viii pp 122-225) ; and a son, Richard, (Burkes Peerage & Baronetage, 99th ed. (1949) pp 838).”

Hope this helps. I’ll give a try at primary source material to better establish dating but it will be difficult.
