I would be pleased if you could review the following baptisms I found today. In all 3 instances the parents are given as Christiaan Johannes Roestorff and Dina Dorothea Brits.

1. Christiaan Johannes ROESTORFF was born on 7 May 1813 and was christened on 13
Feb 1814 in George, Cape, South Africa.

2. Hans Jacob ROESTORFF

Baptism above shows birth date to be 19 November 1814 and baptism on 22 October 1815. Place of birth & baptism George.

3.Cornelia Jacoba Petronella ROESTORFF

born 7 January 1819 and baptized 6 February 1820

Thoughts on this? Besides Hoge's publication has anyone agreed any of the information to source information?

Tracey I have changed Christiaan Johannes' but that gives his children born when he was a little child. Maybe we must wait until someone else ansers as well. I do agree that the baptisms seem correct.

Judi

Thank you Judi!

I'm busy going through the Swellendam baptisms now. Something just does not feel right to me.

I agree that we should wait and see if anyone else has any commentary on this.

Thank you so much for responding

Always a pleasue Tracey. The Afrikaans naming will always be unique but difficult.☺

Judi

I agree Judi! The naming patterns is really interesting and has helped me solve riddles but the practice of the same couple using the same name for children in situations when the first child has passed on, really confuses me!

I will continue looking for source documents for this line.

Judi,

I have found the baptism of the first Hans Jacob https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSK6-CS1N-2?cat=95....

Given that Christian & Dina baptised another son Hans Jacob https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-68B9-XC8?i=29&...

Baptism above shows birth date to be 19 November 1814 and baptism on 22 October 1815. Place of birth & baptism George.

Would it be fair to assume that the Hans Jacob born in 1805 died? Should the second Hans Jacob be added to the tree? Also the Cornelia Jacoba I mentioned initially in the first discussion?

I also notice in the baptisms that Christiaan is recorded as Christiaan Johannes Frederik.

Tracey that is how it were. I will change it back to that.

Thank you for the baptis, records
