It is the first time that I see the remark "Niet te na in den bloede" on a marriage certificate.

yes me too

I would have liked to see the rules and methods they used to determine whether blood relationship was too close, because I have seen some dubious ones.

That set aside, this affirmator knew his customers!

Botes had a "success" of 17 kids with an admittedly more "mature" Viljoen over a period of maximum 23 years.

Affirming this marriage with a 39 year battle proven guy with a 17 year old Weber he had think of the consequences of a "too near" blood relationship.

But he had nothing to fear!. Over the next 31 years Botes had a hit rate of ......zilch!. Poor girl, she must have been so tired raising his 17 kids!

Dries, just note that apart from the first post, the rest of the discussion applies to Gertruida's deprived daughter Gertruida Margaretha Elizabeth Botes

Yes it was coincidence, that this discussion, much later shown to be linked to the same family.

I missed the discussion and only noticed it now as it shows on one of the profiles I analysed. I also found it unusual to see such a remark and found it ironic since despite his large number of offspring with the previous relationship he had none in this case.

Blaming others for my "gebrek aan afhandelingsdrang" is not in my nature and the reference was just made in jest.

Having a high IQ is a blessing and I certainly do not play in that league

Yes and that remark is very important. I googled that aspect in the SA Law and compared it with the Bible prescriptions, but still need an easy reference /formula of what the affirmators used to declare the marriage kosher.

Ok, Daan.
No harm is done. By the way, it is not me with the IQ. I am only 138
Enjoy it in Perth. Namibia is mostly still dry.
