I belong to a Smilkstein family in South Africa and I wanted to know the connection with the Smilkstein American family.
My grandmother was Tzvi Bat Leiba Hirsch Smilkstein born 1876 would of been a cousin to Jacob Smilkstein born 1871;who emigrated to New York.Arrived in New York 1906
. Both from Krustpils (Kreutzberg) I think that Jacobs father name was Hirsch Smilkstein
Look at this data from Yad Vashem:

There is also a Abraham Smilkstein I am in touch with his son Murray and sister Sandra.
Abraham age 39 in 1940 census father to Murray and Sandra both alive today.
I checked yad Hashem. So perhaps Jacob was the son of Hirsch Smilkstein the father of Jacob the father of Abraham. I think that is the connection to my family.
This family settled in Mt. Kisco.
In Kreurzberg The Meilech Family lived next door to Smilkstein family.
Thanks Edna Mor for your interest Hessel Meilech
