Hendrik Van Wormer (1727-1800) was the father of Lieutenant Jacob Van Wormer, a Revolutionary War soldier from Albany County, New York. Most online genealogies state that Hendrik was a son of Cornelius Laurens Van Wormer (1667-1736), who in turn was a son of Laurens Jansz Van Wormer (no consensus regarding what years he lived), the immigrant from the Netherlands. Name spellings are subject to variations. Note that if this is true, Cornelius was 60 years older than his "son," possible but not likely. A book called "Dutch Uncles and New England Cousins" by William Ober Clough suggests that this Cornelius was really a great-uncle, rather than the father, of Hendrik. Cornelius had a brother, Laurens Van Wormer Jr., who had a son named Cornelius, who was the father of Hendrik.

If anybody out there has any insights on the early generations of the Van Wormer family?
