Googled "Anentafel numbering", since it was not a term I was familiar with.
According to Wikipedia, it "is a genealogical numbering system for listing a person's direct ancestors in a fixed sequence of ascent. The subject (or proband) of the ahnentafel is listed as No. 1, the subject's father as No. 2 and the mother as No. 3, the paternal grandparents as No. 4 and No. 5 and the maternal grandparents as No. 6 and No. 7, and so on, back through the generations."
Geni is attempting to create a World Tree, so I cannot imagine such a system would be appropriate here.
For example, Geni says you and I are connected - so apparently we are both on the World Tree -- so I should be number 1, when I look, and my father No. 2, etc., but when you look, you should be No. 1, your father (who is very different from my father) should be No. 2, etc. And similarly, when each of my first cousins, who also have claimed profiles, look then they should be No. 1, their father No. 2, and etc. And similarly for each of my second cousins who has a claimed profile. Etc.
To implement such a system would require Geni to Program it somewhat analogously to what it now does to report our relationship to another profile.
There is no way it would be appropriate for you to add a Field to implement such a system, nor to use an existing Field for numbering your ancestors according to their relationship to you.
@Benjamin Schoenbrun, @Dan Cornett.
Nice idea. I would love to have a report where i submit a "starting number" for my focus person, just for that report. Now i only get the starting nr. 1 for the proband
I see that is not applicable for descendant report, but it would bee perfect for myself, for chartering one persons ancestors.

@Lois Lubin. Your suggestion of a function similar to the present relationship to other profiles seems like a really good idea.
For me this is all about navigation, finding my way around the tree where my direct ancestor is present along with all siblings.
- Idea. By loggin in, Geni knows who i am. What if that info was used in all tree views and lists to highlight my direct line. Dynamic and only for the logged in user of course.

1) To get the Tagging to Work with the "@" sign, you have to PAUSE at the end of the first name for the system to pop a drop-down menu with the name you are looking for in it, then click on that name, Once you have clicked the space-bar, the drop-down menu will not pop and tagging will not work. PLEASE do not type more than just my first name in a Public Discussion. If I am tagged, then folks on Geni see my name but folks not logged in just see "Private User" and googling my name cannot pull up the Public Discussion, etc.
2) re: "how do i remove those "ahnentafel" numbering i already added" - one by one, editing each profile (sorry! do not think there is any short-cut)
3) if this is for Navigation, I strongly suggest you use the Ancestor Report that was mentioned above [click on "Actions" on upper right of your profile or from any of your ancestors - or on profile of anyone whose ancestors you are interested in - and after clicking on "Actions", choose Ancestor Report, then click on the Ancestor you are interested in, to go to the profile of that ancestor - where you can see his/her immediate family listing and/or click on Tree View for that Ancestor
4) Many of us at times want to see information focused on another person, so having it hard-coded just to the one who logs in would be way less useful than how it is now
5) Personally, as I mentioned, I had never heard of that numbering system, so having everything suddenly numbered that way instead of how it is now in the Ancestor Report would not be a help for me and others like me, but rather very confusing, to say the least -- having the option to use that numbering system might be nice for some - but I would think it would be a very low priority for Geni. I know there are other outside programs that will produce reports from Geni -- possibly one of them does that, or you might convince a programmer to create one.
