i have a ? why would my gggrandfather with the last name carl would have a father with the last name kruel he is his real father

Did {gggrandfather) Carl live his whole life in the same place, and did (ggggrandfather) Kruel live his life in the same place, and was it the same place for both?
If so, where? If not, what locations did they live in?

Also, what time frame are we talking about? Because spelling was very fluid for a very long time.

well neither live in the the same place back in 1800 kruel family it seems came from poland but he lived in new york and carl which is carroll lived in canada but i was always told the carroll were from ireland so its all mixed up to me

sorry i mean kruel was from belg. but all his kids names are carl

You do not seem to be worried about 'Carl' morphing into 'Carroll' - I would think 'kruel' might have morphed into "Carl' via the same or similar process
