I found this :
http://www.newtonfolk.com/finklea.htm

I think this Thomas Finklea
Thomas Finklea, II

is the Son of Dr. Thomas Finklea and Elizabeth Evans, not Elizabeth Keeling Finklea Malbone. He is showing as the father of his Brother John who should be merged with his listed "brother." John is his half brother and the son of Elizabeth Keeling Finklea Malbone and Dr. Thomas Finklea. John (c. 1690- 1769 - date should be corrected) is the second son of Dr. Thomas Finklea and the father of Thomas Finklea of Marion, SC (1724-1787) in my opinion. Can someone review this? I have not been able to connect with profile managers. I think we would all want this corrected. Any help appreciated. Susanne

Well, I am in search of the "Finklea Family in America" book and have found a copy at the University of SC. Hope to get down in next couple of weeks to get a definite answer on this quandry, but the more I am reading perhaps, Dr. Thomas Finklea is the son of Nicholas Finklea and Katherine Evans (Nicholas listed as his son). According to this wikilink
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Finklea-46 and the links from profiles on it, that may be the sorting out.
With so many Thomases and Johns, it is a bit crazy deal. But an interesting family, all the same.

Hello Susanne,

There is a GOOD amount of GOOD information about the Finklea family in America in the DAR public database. Would you like to help me build those lines? That info would have it's beginning around 1730.

Susanne Floyd I think you’re right and Nicholas Finklea, Il is actually meant to be the father of Dr Finklea, not the son.

However it seems clear to me that Elizabeth Malbone had TWO sons, as her mother was guardian of BOTH of them after Thomas’ death.

I can’t speak to dates - you should be able to correct them yourself? But if you agree to l’ll move Nicholas for you.

Actually there seems to have been a brother to Dr Thomas who also came to VA. So I’m moving the existing Nicholas as Nicholas ll & created new profiles for Dr. Nicholas Finklea & Catherine Finklea

Nicholas II Finklea 1642–1693

When Nicholas II Finklea was born on April 26, 1642, in Petersfield, Hampshire, England, his father, Nicholas, was 34 and his mother, Katherine, was 24. He married Ann Goldsmyth in 1679. He died in 1693 in Prince William, Virginia, at the age of 51

Ok I see your point about a 1st wife:

http://www.newtonfolk.com/finklea.htm

It is commonly believed that he was born about 1646 in Petersfield, England and died in Virginia in 1694. The date of his death is documented by information in the records of Virginia. While in England he married Elizabeth Ann Evans and had a son (Thomas) in England that was baptised September 1678 (reference: London, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 for Thomas Finckley. City of London, St Michael Paternoster Royal 1675-1743). After Dr. Thomas Finckley died in 1693, the two Finckley boys were taken care of by Anne Martin Keeling Richeson who was their "grand mother".

You should be able to add Elizabeth Ann Evans as a wife and move children around through the relationships tab.

Faustine Darsey on partial hiatus and Erica Howton many thanks for your attention to this. I spoke with my cousin Asa Godbolt Finklea tonight who has a copy of the "treasured" book "Finklea Family in America" and he concurs that Nicholas was the father. I hope to obtain a copy of this book soon and be able to post. It is clear that Elizabeth Malbone was the mother of both.

I will work with Asa to find the dates. I can always go down to Columbia to scan the documents there. It seems it is a much treasured document and we need to find a way to memorialize it. Thank you both for any assistance. The family will appreciate it. Asa Godbolt Finklea's daughter Ashley Finklea Jamison is my legacy. She shares the Finklea/Roberts/Smith lines along with all of my mother's Finnish line. Don't ask it is too confusing. Susanne

I am not sure that Thomas was born in England Erica Howton. The Finklea book seems to contradict that. Give me a verdict. Sometimes another son was named again. We know that at another time. Perhaps, the son in England died and he had another in America. Or maybe he had both????

Again, I really appreciate that you are looking at Thomas Finklea Erica Howton and Faustine Darsey on partial hiatus. I am so thankful my family has found this place. I have no children. This is for those who do. I just want to make it right. Many thanks. Susanne

I’ll look some more for English records; had great luck finding the baptism & Marriage Records for Dr. Nicholas Finklea

Another thought to chew on for you:

The people named in the 1690 head right. First off, wives would have been listed by married name, not maiden. So I’m not sure http://www.newtonfolk.com/finklea.htm defined them correctly.

While you’re waiting on the book may I suggest you work down tree > up with the DAR Records?

Will see what I can add/check. I, too am confused by several parts in newtonfolk.com/finklea. My cousin says that a number of items are noted in the Vaughn book that I am seeking as being proven incorrect in another publication that seems to be cited often by Mary K. O'Doherty "Pioneers on the Pee Dee." So I am not sure it is a usable source. It was published in 1974. The Vaughn book "Finklea Family in America" was published in 2012 and seems to be the ultimate.

The DAR database is indexed for the descendants of Patriots of the American Revolution. So not only can we look at Patriots with the Finklea surname, but also descendants with that surname. Also the lineage is available for approved application from the AR to within 3 generations of current time.

Thanks, Faustine Darsey on partial hiatus. I am finding it helpful for some of the lines, for sure. Having the DAR numbers is extremely helpful when looking individuals up. I am thankful that we (particularly you) are putting the numbers on profiles as we find them for future folks.
