Baron Hugh de Port has a sibling with the same first name.
Tip: Go to the profile of Baron Hugh de Port and his sibling's profile, Hugh de Port, Lord of Seamer, to review.

I am not sure if this is correct. Were they both named the same?

I haven't figured out yet if there are two different men named Hugh de Port or two different biographies of the same man.

Good thing you discovered this.

Another, apparently different biography for a Hugh de Port on Wikipedia.

Anyway, I'm sure our knowledgeable curators will sort it out.

The extra Henry has no children attached, and just the dates that don’t agree. I’m merging him into his brother the MP.

If you really want to study up on the de Ports of Basing, check Rounds study.

Ericka, is Baron Hugh de Port the brother of Hugh de Port of Seamer, as conveyed on their profiles? They were born 15 years apart.

(I apologize, my niece is "Ericka" different spelling. I'm sorry.)

Erica Howton Thank you! Very interesting stuff.

No worries.

For tree correction I would follow the http://cybergata.com/roots/8861.htm site and the MPs, and look to resolve data conflicts before doing anything. And get rid of grandiose titles! No one was a peer of the kingdom here. Take your time and be delicate: this is so extremely early in history.

I am skeptical about the parents given for Hugh de Port, Domesday lord of Basing

http://cybergata.com/roots/8863.htm begins the tree with him.

What does Rounds say?

Pam Wilson (on hiatus) Can you look at Hugh de Port, Domesday lord of Basing who married Eleanor de Leon vs his same name brother who married Orence de Port St. John, of Basing ? Your profile’s Biography seems mixed?

Where does Rounds place Adam de Port, I, of Mapledurwell ?

Hubert de Port, of. Mapledurwell, 1086.

Sybil=Roger not Hoger LOL

From Rounds I believe Henry's parents were Sybil and Roger de Port if I am reading it right.

Can you tag the geni profiles?

Erica Howton

N.N.

Roger De Port

These are profiles that I found.

Erica Howton

I believe Roger's parents were Adam de Port (the first) and possibly another Sybil (born Yorkshire?) and Roger's Sybil I think was born Hugh?

Erica Howton

Also according to Round Adam de Port (the first)'s father was Hubert de Port. Is this the same person as Hugh de Port?

I think Rounds argued that the treasonous Adam de Port was the grandson of the first, and if so

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_de_Port_(d._1174)_

Still has them mixed up.

https://www.oxforddnb.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/9780198614128.001.0...#

Port, Adam de (fl. 1161–1174), landowner, was the son of Roger de Port (d. c.1161) and his wife, Sibyl d'Aubigny, and grandson of Adam de Port (d. c.1138), who was probably sheriff of Herefordshire in 1130, and who had the honour of ...

Hubert & Hugh de Port were not the same person (perhaps related).

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Port-74

(Hubert and Hugh were sometimes confused before 1900 when Round, in the words of Complete Peerage, "placed the genealogy of both families on a sound basis and cleared up the confusion between the Ports of Basing and those of Mapledurwell or Herefordshire which had previously existed."[4] See Round.[5])

Erica Howton that is what I thought. Everything you said is what I thought. I just wanted confirmation on it. So according to this our tree needs some work with separating out the two lines I believe Hubert and Hugh were brothers. So can I make the changes needed or does it have to be a curator?

I don’t know that we can say Hubert & Hugh were brothers? That they were related seems likely.

Hubert is curated so we need Pam Wilson (on hiatus) to help figure straighten out the Biography on that: that’s the Adam de Port side & the “Mapledurwell” line.

Try working on the “Basing” line first. I’ll move Adam off of him, you can try adding the Sybil wife.

The way I handle these is to FIRST put the bio & family information in the profile, and an external link, “and then” edit. Be sure and resolve conflicting data.

Frankly we’re almost there with the Basing side.

also I’m going to screenshot the Rounds chart and upload. Unless Keats-Rohan has had more to say lately, it looks like his 1900 reconstruction and The Complete Peerage holds up. DO NOT use Burke’s & in the profiles you could note that Burke’s got it wrong.

Here’s a new Hubert de Port, I, of Mapledurwell with son Adam started. Can you continue it Keri Denise Jackson, ♊ Twin "A" ?

Private User The only thing that’s making sense to me is Hugh who married Orence as son of Hugh who married Eleanor de Leon.

It’s either that or they’re different altogether.

Round did not address the French Ancestry in any specific beyond location area. It looks like Keats-Rohan may have, and (I think) she’s affirming Round as son of Hubert, not Hugh.

Also I should note that Round’s chart looks like a dotted line from Hubert to Adam.
