According to the source posted, John was born in 1584 in South Carolina?
This is a POSSIBLE ancestor of mine.

It looks like SC means Scotland here.

Hello Laura,

I am assuming you mean John Dickey, Agnes McIlvaine's husband, my 9th GGF?
I'm sorry to say he died in Ireland, never having sailed to America...

"John Dickey # 3
1584–1641
Birth 1584 • Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Death 1 OCT 1641 • Ballymena, Antrim, Northern Ireland (Killed in massacre when the native Irish rose up against the British government and colonists) (57)"

I believe one of his sons did go to America, but not David Dickey who remained in Ireland.

If you have membership with Ancestry as well you could contact 'DADickey,' California. She has done a lot of research on the Dickeys over there and may be able to help you.

Beware when you are researching Dickeys in America, there are a lot of people who wish their ancestors did sail early to the new colonies, but not all of them did. A large number moved from Scotland to Ireland where they set up the first very well known linen trade.

Happy Hunting,
Carolyn

Very helpful, thank you! My research is leading me his direction and the SC confused me. Of course it means Scotland. Thank you.

You're welcome, I hope you find what you are looking for :)
