SKJALM HVIDE'S Immediate family

Skjalm Hvide had at least one brother, Aude, who ( in the words of Saxo Grammaticus) "belonged to one of the most distinguished families".

Skjalm and his wife Signe Asbjørnsdatter (c. 1050 – c. 1096) gave birth to Asser Rig Skjalmsen Hvide (c. 1078–1151) (a jarl and chieftain); Margrethe Skjalmsdatter Hvide (1073–1162); Cecilie Skjalmsdatter Hvide (c. 1084 – 1161); Toke Skjalmsen Hvide (1085–1145); Sune Skjalmsen Hvide (c. 1086 – c. 1140); and Ebbe Skjalmsen Hvide af Knardrup (c. 1090 – 1151).

Skjalm's son Asser Rig married Inger Eriksdotter (c. 1100–1157), the daughter of Eric, the Jarl of Falster, and PrincessCecilia Knutsdatter, the daughter of King Canute IV of Denmark (c. 1042 – 10 July 1086), the first Danish king (1080–1086) to be canonized, recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as the Patron Saint of Denmark in 1101.

Asser and Ingersettled to live in Fjenneslev, Zealand, where they erected the Fjenneslev Church (Fjenneslev Kirke) in Sorø.
They gave birth to Absalon (c. 1128 – 21 March 1201), who became the Bishop of Roskilde, Archbishop of Lund, and a powerful warrior leader, government minister and main adviser and ally to two Danish kings. The other two children of Asser and Inger were Esbern Snare (c. 1127–1204) and Ingefred Assersdatter (c. 1130–1160).

Here in Geni there are two profiles of Skjalm Hvide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skjalm_Hvide or at least they are giftedly mixed up when it comes to wives, children, families, so there's a lot to combine. Also, these can't be deleted or cut off into bit-space as we call it here in the North, because both profiles have a huge amount of descendants (plus 10.000 both) and plenty of ancestors:

There has been a "bit of mess" lately in Danish tree. Trees have been altered, entire families have been cut and left without fathers, mothers or children. When making changes, they have to be done to the end in some point, not "steal the father" and leave rest of the family hanging there alone in the tree. But as I have understood lately, there are also good things started to happen there and sources have been added to many profiles.

The task to solve all these profiles requires the help of curators and volunteers who understand Danish and the medieval trees.

Any suggestions on how to handle this? People has done and are doing unnecessary work building both trees.

Thank you for posting the wikipedia link, Private User. Good information to see the significance of someone that I have been following as he is in my tree and I knew nothing of him. I bet many more are that way, sadly. But I am working on it. Discussions like this help.

I noticed that Skjalm is in no "Projects" and went over to that section searching for something like "Danish Medieval Genealogy" like we have for "Finnish Medieval (1100-1525) Genealogy with whatever dates would be appropriate for inclusion for Denmark. It might give a firewall or way to observe/monitor key profiles. I don't know. Just a thought.

Skjalm Hvide, død 1113, storbonde. Ifølge Sorø klosters gavebog var Skjalm Hvide søn af den ellers ukendte Toke Trylle om hvem gavebogen oplyser at han var den første kristne i sin slægt, og Skjalm Hvide havde selv sønnerne Asser Rig, Ebbe og Toke. Oplysningerne findes alle i forbindelse med redegørelsen for stiftelsen af det første kloster i Sorø kort efter 1140, en benediktinerstiftelse som Absalon 1162 omdannede til cistercienserkloster. Det er først og fremmest dette klosters grundlæggelse og ældste historie indtil ca. 1215 som gavebogen er interesseret i; det vides ikke hvornår den er affattet, og det eneste bevarede manuskript er fra ca. 1440, så oplysningerne om Skjalm Hvide og hans familie kan ikke kaldes samtidige. Han har næppe selv ført navnet Hvide, i hvert fald ikke som slægtsnavn, og den navnkundige Hvideslægt som han er stamfar til er en gruppering af slægter som 1500-tallets genealogiske forskningsinteresse har skabt (forbindelsen mellem slægtens forskellige grene er ofte tvivlsom). Skjalm Hvide omtales ofte hos Saxo som en af den (stærke) danske kongemagts vigtigste støtter, især under Sven Estridsen og Erik Ejegod. Efter Rügens erobring fik Skjalm Hvide befalingen her. Det var til ham at Erik Ejegod og dronning Bodil betroede deres søn Knud da de 1102 drog ud på pilgrimsrejsen til Det hellige Land. Skjalm Hvide har ejet store godser, dels på Sorøegnen, dels i Nordsjælland. Han gravlagdes i Fjenneslev der måske var – i hvert fald senere blev – hovedsædet for familiens besiddelser. Fra Fjenneslev førte Absalon Skjalm Hvides og Tokes ben til Sorø.

Skjalm Tokeson Hvide (født ca. 1034, død ca. 1113) var en dansk høvding.

Han eide store jordeiendommer omkring Sorø på Sjælland, og anses for å være stamfar til den mektige Hvide-slekten. Han var sønn av Toke Trylle (Hvide).

Sammen med Svend Estridsen deltok han i Slaget ved Niså i 1062, der han ble tatt til fange av Harald Hårdråde. Herfra flyktet han senere.

Han samlet omkring 1100 sjællænderne til hevntokt mod venderne, som hadde drept hans bror.

Skjalm Hvide var nært knyttet til Erik I Ejegod, hvis sønn Knud Lavard fra 1102 i noen år ble oppfostret sammen med hans egne sønner Asser Rig og Ebbe Skjalmsen (Hvide). Han fikk dessuten barna Margrete, Cecilie Skjalmsdatter (Hvide) og Toke Skjalmsen (Hvide), alle med hustruen Signe.

Thank you Susanne, good to have you here. Juan, There are two profiles for Skjalm. Both with huge amount of descendants. In Geni there should be only one profile/per persin, or people are doing work "for nothing", when building two similar trees.

One of these Skjalm profiles is a Master Profile. The other one is the result of a GEDCOM import.

The right procedure is probably to isolate and delete the GEDCOM-imported one.

Harald Tveit Alvestrand people has been building the other tree (not MP) over a year and making merges to it, so curators really has to think this through as both profiles has over 10 000 descendants. The other important thing is that after there were huge cuts made to Danish medieval tree lately by member of Geni, after that all the corrections has been made also to the other tree, not the one that is MP profile :/ so maybe doing a project of some sort? https://www.geni.com/discussions/202573?msg=1336732

These profiles has had some traffic again lately, these duplicates are heavy with descendants and in the second profile (not the MP-one) has some offspring in many generations, that are missing from the MP tree.

(The one that is not a MP has been built up now also many years) there are lot of information, that is missing from duplicates. So - Please do not merge/cut hastily or with rush, there are two heavy trees, not as simple as it looks like. Start /continue a discussion please. Hyvää Kevättä.
