Molong Express and Western District Advertiser - Saturday 21 December 1918 Page 10

An old an highly esteemed resident of the Manildra district, Mr. John Peck, crossed the Great Divide on Tuesday, at the age of 66 years. The cause of death was heart failure. He had been in Orange under medical treatment a few months ago and returned home improved in health, but far from well. The night prior to his death he enjoyed a good sleep, but awoke at five o'clock with a severe pain in his head, and soon after he became unconscious. Everything possible was done to revive him, but to no avail, and he passed peacefully away at half past five.
He leaves a sorrowing widow and adult family of eight sons and four daughters, all of whom were present at the graveside except Mrs. F. H. Robson, of Tamworth, and Mr. George Peck, of Woy Woy, who were unable to attend.
Deceased also leaves one brother, Mr. George Peck, of Sydney, who was present at the funeral, and three sisters. To the bereaved ones the " Express" extends its sincere sympathy.
The late Mr. Peck was born in the Patterson River district, and spent most of his young days at Kurrajong, near Richmond, where he married Margaret Jane Townsend in 1873. Soon afterwards Mr.and Mrs. Peck removed to the Manildra district, where deceased carried on farming up to the time of his death. He was a kind and
affectionate husband and a good father, and was well liked by all with whom he came in contact.
A straightforward, honest man, he believed in doing everything properly, and was generally admired for the neat and tidy nature of his farm. The Manildra district loses in Mr. Peck an up right citizen and industrious farmer.
The funeral, which was largely attended, over 30 vehicles being present, left deceased's late residence on Wednesday morning, and proceeded to the C. of E. at
Garra, where a short service was held. Miss D. Rubie presided at the organ, and the choir sang one of deceased's favourite hymns.
The cortege afterwards left for the Garra cemetery, where the Rev. Poole officiated at the graveside. The remains were encased in a beautiful silver mounted, polished maple coffin. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. A. Cole, of Cudal. Some lovely wreaths, sent by friends of the deceased, were placed on the
coffin.

Molong Argus - Fri 20 December 1918 Page 4

The unexpected death of Mr John Peck, which took place at his residence, Manildra, on Tuesday morning last, cast quite a gloom over the town and district, where he has resided continuously for upwards of 45 years. The immediate cause of death was heart failure supervening upon rheumatism.
The late Mr Peck, who was a native of the Patterson River, was 66 years of age. He was one of the earliest settlers is this district where he engaged in agricultural pursuits, and was the possessor of many good qualities—he was much esteemed by all who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. Though of a retiring disposition the deceased gentleman evinced a bean interest in ever; movement which leaded towards the development of the town and district.
He was of a genial disposition and was ever ready to give a word of advice, or lend a helping hand to any one in need of assistance, and the news of his unexpected passing to the Great Beyond will be received with many genuine expressions of regret.
A widow and adult family are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. The members of the family are Arthur (Garra), John (Parkes), George (Woy Woy), Leslie and Andrew (Narromine), Ernest, Roy and Walter (Manildra), Misses Florrie, and Hilda (Manildra) and Esther (Tamworth).
The interment took place at Garra on Wednesday morning, the cortege being a large one. The remains were laid to rest in the Anglican portion of the cemetery, the Rev Mr Poole, officiating at the grave side
