Tony Laffan is a descendant of Ann and Thomas Smith. He has self published a book on Ann Colpitts that identifies her as Ann Watson (not Ann Wise). He further states that there is no evidence that she married Tom Colpitts but cohabited with him as a member of the Bishop Aukland Gang who were a loose group of petty criminals that stole from shops and were clever pickpockets.
The third daughter of Ann and Thomas Smith, Elizabeth, was born in 1797 and he believes there is a good chance that she was the offspring of another First Fleeter Joseph Hatton with whom she lived until his death in 1828. In Joseph Hatton's 1823 Will, he left half of his property to Elizabeth and half to Joseph (jnr) born in 1800. The other three Smith girls were not in his will.

It would be unlikely that if she was the daughter of HATTON that she would have used the name of SMITH until her marriage at age 21 - her brother born 1800 was called HATTON
Not impossible but unlikely. Would have been raised by Joseph HATTON.
Mary SMITH probably passed away young as no record has been found of her past her birth, Jane SMITH married SPENCER prior to HATTON's death - who is the 3rd SMITH sister?
Tony Laffan only surmises that Elizabeth was the child of Joseph Hatton (my great-great-great grandfather). Joseph’s wife Rosamund (née Sparrow) stabbed him in the stomach in 1795 in a fit of jealousy. It may be that Joseph had formed a liaison with Ann Smith (Colpitts) who was renting the nearby Thomas Jones Farm that Hatton eventually purchased by 1802. Certainly it is interesting that his 1823 Will of which I have a copy, left half of his property to Joseph junior and half to Elizabeth. Perhaps Tony Laffan should get a DNA test and match it with mine (not that I have one either).
You could email Tony Laffan at tonylaffan@bigpond.com I am sure he wouldn’t mind contact from you as he has devoted countless years to researching Ann Colpitts.
He may even have a few spare copies of his book for sale. His extensive sources are mentioned in the publication. Elizabeth had two sisters who you correctly identified.
