Assimilation-Rosh Hashanah-KiTavo

Started by Rabbi Moshe (Steve) Goldstein on Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Our generation witnessed the loss of a third of our people physically and now we are upon just as many to spiritual holocaust to which we've created in taking the final assimilation route disregarding our chosen relationship to the Creator thru Torah commandments/mitzvos. The Torah portion Ki Tavo while guaranteeing us the brachos of success for observance also warns us about the holocaust we witnessed for disregard. Our immigrant ancestors couldn't imagine intermarriage as their children pursued entry into the American economic dream. For sure they kept what was possible-Kashruth Yom Tovim/holidays, and even Shabbos seeing any observance disposal as temporary and feeling the non-Jews would never fully accept us even if we tried complete divorce from our heritage. Maybe as "Americans" we succeeded economically and socially but for our own eternity as Yidden our distinct special identity has waned. (Our tree of American "success" includes baseball hall of fame, Ivy League, West Point, CIA agents....)

Let us take it upon ourselves this Rosh Hashana to commit to revitalize recognizing that only thru a relationship with Hashem we can be our true eternal selves. It is with this prayer I hope many family will find their way back to the Torah observance kept in our family since the departure from Egypt as G-d's unique spiritual nation. Many of our generation have indeed found their way rightfully back reversing the aberration of assimilation of only 2 generations. Join us for meaning back to our heritage guaranteeing eternity and true happiness. Embracing secular modernity of run away indulgence has not brought lasting happiness as our traditional rabbis have long taught. Feel free to contact me with any questions and/or advice. Ketiva Chasima Tova-Shana Tova.
