I have been looking at various routes for ancestry for William Saffer. I finally joined ancestry.com and came across this profile. Perhaps this is the branch of the Saffer family that had the dna testing done. I am related to them, as we both descend from John Wailes Saffer and Rebecca Mathes, William's son and his wife. I would like you to take a look at this if you can, and I appreciate any feedback. I am just trying to figure out this ancestry.

Thank you!

Of course the records attached are good; the problem is connecting William Saffer to Valentine Sevier as a son.

The SAR doesn’t list him for instance:

I “think” (not sure) Y DNA on a detailed test will be the best bet? ATDNA will be too “fuzzy,” at least for me, because it’s quite possible Valentine descendants & William descendants inter married.

Another thing you could look at is a detailed timeline of William’s known locations & plot them against the known locations of Valentine & his family.

Thank you Erica. That is a question for me as well. I just keep bumping in to this dna piece. It seems William Saffer is connected somehow. In this ancestry profile, the immigration record lists a Valentine as father, and John in 1740. It's complicated when the same name is given multiple generations in families. There is, for instance, a William Saffer in every generation until it gets to my father, in our family line. The ancestry profile did plot a group of them moving to Tennessee from the same Fairfax land area. William Saffer stayed in Virginia. I will look into that more, as well as the immigration record. There may have been others on that ship.
