There seems to be some debate about who Thomas Huxley [Convict "Salamander" 1791] parents are
Two sets of parents have been put onto Geni
Set 1
Father - Uriah Huxley (1744-1795)
Mother - Mary Huxley (1739-1778) daughter of Caleb Lloyd (1707-1768) and Judith Colsworthy (1713-1769)
Set 2
Father - Uriah Huxley (1743-1785)
Mother - Mary Ann Huxley (1745-1785) daughter of Owen Lloyde (1660-1703) and Susannah Lloyde (born 1683)
Thomas conviction only has the information Thomas HUCKLES aka Thomas JONES. Upon arrival he referred to himself as Thomas JONES and gradually changed it to Thomas HUXLEY by the 1820's
Can anyone provide any sources that show that the Thomas JONES/HUCKLES/HUXLEY who arrived on "Salamander" is the son of either of these 2 families?

The 1828 census records Thomas as having arrived per the ship Salamander in 1791. Thomas referred to himself as Thomas Jones in the colony and seems to have gradually changed it to Thomas Huxley by the mid to late 1820s. He is variously recorded in the musters of the 1820s as Thomas Jones, Thomas Uxley and Thomas Huxley. In the 1822 and 1825 musters Ann Forbes is recorded as the wife of Thomas Uxley and Thomas Jones and in 1828 the wife of Thomas Huxley.
I can locate only one man named Thomas Jones who is listed in the State Library of Queensland's transportation database as having arrived per the Salamander. He is also listed as "alias Ayres". This Thomas Jones was convicted at Middlesex Gaol Delivery for a term of 7 years on 26 May 1790. There is no mention in this database of Thomas Huxley per Salamander.

I have serious doubts about the parentage of Thomas Huxley. We recently had a Huxley descendant take a Y DNA test. The results show no matches with the surnames of Huxley or Jones (or resemblances of them). The most common surname amongst the matches was Stewart. We have found three people who descend from Thomas Dilnot Stewart https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stewart-30124 who match DNA with our Huxley tester.
The quality of the match indicates a common ancestor further back than this. We will know more as closer relatives take the test.
