(I was uncertain and that's why I rewrite the last I posted, after updating myself on more sources.)
Sir David Sinclair was a period Chief at Bergenshus. Henry Sinclair of Havera could be his
brothers son, and the son of the scribe and priest Alexander Sinclair (of Legane.) ?
Alexander (Sander) is mentioned as Sir David Sinclair's brother in his will. There is also
mentioned a son of his (not named) brother, by the name of Henry, who could be identical
to Henry Sinclair at Havoray ? Was Henry of Havoray the Chief (Høvedsmann) of shetland
in 1512 ? The Chief of Shetland Henry Sinclair, was a witness in 21 Jul 1512. He may have
had some, illegitimate children with a Gurine Gyldenløve during his stay in Bergen ?
The Henry who travels to Bergen is claimed to be identical with Bishop Henry Sinclair to
Ross (1508-1565). The sources do not give much possibility that he ever was in Bergen.
The bishop was a son of Sir Olivier at Roslin. Bishop Henry was born in 1508.
(same year as the will.) He is to young to be in Bergen 1512. I don't think it's Henry 3rd
of Ravenscraig either because he is not called Lord Sinclair. He was a son of William
"the waster". Lord Henry Ravenscraig died in 1513 at Flodden.
Henry at Havoray had a son Olav (Cal.1505-1579) who was the chief bailiff of Shetland.
The same Olav was visited by the Duke of Scotland, James Hepburn of Boothwell during
his escape to Norway. The same Olav became the father of James Sinclair of Brew, who
(prob.) became the father of James Sinclair to Bullister (Bolleseter). He was Edvart Sinclair
on Bolleseter's father. This Edvart had a economic relationship with Else Trunds (Rustung),
and Axel, son of Andrew Mowat.
The properties that Andrew Mowat's wife Ursula Tulloch's family leased from the Austråt
people on Papa Stour, were originally owned by Junker Hans Sigurdsson of Giske. Otte
Matsson Rømer's mother was of the Norwegian Bolt family, (you find 2 Bolt's on Orkneys).
She inherited 1/3 of the estate left by Junker Hans. Mrs. Inger of Austraat was Ottes Matsson's
daughter, but she had a brother named Olav Ottesson Rømer. Olav and his father Otte (Odd)
was a period Chiefs at Bergenshus. (in Norway). Otte was also a time Lensherre in Hardanger.
One might then wonder if this was a Gurine (Olavsdatter) Rømer instead of a Gyldenlove ?
Was she the mistress of Henry ? or was she the second wife after Jean ? Mrs.Inger was married
to a Gyldenløve (Golden Lion).
Andrew Mowat who married (bef.1559) Ursula Tulloch and later Elsie Trundsie (Else Rustung)
might have the wrong parents.Van Bassen gave Andrew Mowats parents the names Bertil Mowat
and Barbra Sinclair. Could it instead be the name of his mother in law, and his brother in law ?
Barbra Tulloch and Bertil Strang ? I wonder if the real parents could be James Mowat.
Underfoud at Dunrosness and Margaret Thomasdaugther (Sinclair) of Hai. (Could it be of Hoy ?
Could Ravenshall be the same as the Museum Cra'as-Nest near Ravens-Hill, on isle of Hoy ?)
James is mentioned together with Andrew in 1560-61 in Laxfirth. (As father and son ?)
(Shetland Documents 1195-1579, pg 83, item 125. Laxfirth, 5 march 1560-1 Members of
assisa- James Mowat, underfold of Dunrosnes and Andro Mowatt.
(At Awsetter south of, but near the later Hugoland. Pg 107, item 142. Scailoway,
11 February 1563-4 'Seals of honourable men...Andro Mowat of Awssotter.)
Margaret Wilson was the mother of a Margaret, who married Magnus Sinclair
of Karstane in Stromness. He died before 24 February 1528. Was he the same as
the son of Sir David Sinclair, who was killed by the Warsetter family ? Mrs.Wilson
was married to a Thomas-Alexander Sinclair. Was this Thomas-Alexander the same
as Sir Davids brother ? (the scribe and priest Alexander Sinclair (of Legane.) ? (..or
was that Thomas Alexander the gandchild of the Thomas who bought Tohop in 1438 ?
He was a leg. Son of the 1st David S.in Bergenshus. He was the leg.son of Lord
William 3rd Sinclair of Roslin & Countess Isabelle De Strathearn of Caithness.)
2 sons ?
- Henry of Havera
- Sir John of Tensta.(South-Sandwick.Orkneys.)
They had at least 3 Daughters.
- Christiane who married Magnus Paulson Sanday.
- Katherine who married twice.1st a Robert or Robsoun at Leirquhy.Stromness.
2nd Magister William "The older" Mudie of Werbuster on Isle of Hoy.
(Maybe Werbuster is the same as Hai ?)
- Margaret married 1st Magnus Sinclair of Karstane, and (probably) 2nd
James Mowat. Underfoud at Rosness. Magnus Sinclair was the father of
John De Sinclair at Tohop.(Near Tensta)
James Mowat i believe to be the son of a N.N Bruce (Orning table), married
to Gilbert 1st Mowat of Brabstermire (Caitness.) Gilberts mother would be
the 4th daughter (Agnes) of Forbes Kinaldie(Orning table , who married
Lord John Mowat.
