My research on MyHeritage matched Jennie "Ghi-Na-Klauggs-Ky ( born Buffington ) as Ezekiel Fields mother. Through Geni recently it is shown that Ezekiel was the son of Nancy "Nannie" Brown. Ezekiel's father Richard had 5 wives, both Jennie and Nancy were among them. I am looking for something that will substantiate who was Ezekiel's mother. If neither Nancy or Jennie cannot be substantiated then it will throw the direction of the lineage off. I have nothing to substantiate Jennie as his mother other than matches made on MyHeritage.
Ezekiel is listed along with his wife Mary Ann Sexton in the book "1842 Cherokee Claims" I saw it at the Cherokee Heritage center in Tahlaquah, Ok last month. I will be visiting it again in September and will see if it has any further information. It did list his father a Richard Fields.
Another mystery is Ezekiel's date of death. His headstone in Fields Cemetery states 1789 - 1839. However his daughter Mary Ellen was born in Dec. of 1844. A note on findagrave.com states " Headstone dates(1789-1839)are historically incorrect: "Ezekiel Fields perished in a prairie fire (the last week of October)" [The Cherokee Advocate, issue of Nov. 2,1844.] Also killed then were his brother John Jack, and a "son". Ezekiel's son saved himself by running through the flames. The "son" who perished is presumed to be John's, named John R.,b.1838-1844.(Mother, Elizabeth Wells). [Note: Ezekiel's marker "age 50 years",may be accurate]".
Ezekiel is my grandfather four times removed.
So, I am looking for substantiation on his mother and if unable to substantiate this then it requires further research, if that is even available.
Thanks for any further information on this.
